Optical Coherence Tomography
This highly sophisticated, non-invasive imaging test uses light waves to take cross-section scans of your retina to map and measure the thickness. It is useful for diagnosing many eye conditions, including macular holes, macular puckers, macular edema, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, central serous retinopathy, diabetic retinopathy and vitreous traction.
Retinal Photography
A digital camera is used to take photographs of the optic nerve, macula and retina. The doctor will go over the photos with you, explain the health state of your eye and answer any questions that you may have. These photos will also assist the doctor in diagnosing many diseases of the eye including glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other retinal disorders.
Visual Field Screening only
This computerized screening test measures the sensitivity of the retina and also the central and peripheral vision for visual field loss. Visual field testing can assist in early detection of glaucoma, retinal disease and some neurological defects such as brain tumors and optic nerve disease. This is NOT the air puff glaucoma test, which is included in the routine exam. It is possible that additional, more comprehensive visual field testing may be necessary based on the results of your visual field screening or the vision analysis by the doctor.
